Hi, I’m Jen Hill.
I’ve spent over 20 years in the field of education, serving as an elementary school teacher, preschool owner, curriculum writer, and online literacy tutor. Throughout my career, I’ve been committed to helping students reach their academic goals by designing instruction that builds on their strengths and supports their individual learning needs.
I hold a Master’s in Teaching from Lewis & Clark College and an Oregon Elementary Teaching License. I am trained in the Orton‑Gillingham approach to structured literacy (OG+) and Morphology through the Institute for Multi‑Sensory Education (IMSE), and I use these evidence‑based methods to help young readers develop confidence and mastery in their reading skills.
I live in Eugene, Oregon with my husband, two kids, dog, cat, and four chickens. I love teaching, reading, and spending time outdoors with my family.
Philosophy
I started Learning Mountain because I believe every child can achieve reading success when they’re supported in the right learning environment. Effective reading instruction must be both structured and engaging, so our classes blend structured literacy instruction with multi-sensory teaching techniques. Students engage with language concepts through seeing, hearing, and writing, which helps strengthen the neural pathways that support long‑lasting learning. Lessons blend opportunities for movement, games, and fun while providing challenges to build skills. When students enjoy learning, they’re more willing to take risks, grow their confidence, and reach their goals.
